Hobo Gloves

My current knitting project, aka fingerless gloves:

Hobo Gloves

I'm pretty happy with how they're turning out so far--isn't this colorful yarn fun? It's a slow-going project (I started a few months ago), and will probably be done just in time for next winter! I've learned a few new skills with these gloves, including knitting in the round with double pointed needles, a new increase method, and a new binding off method. Next skill I need to learn is cabling. After all these years, I still haven't attempted it. I don't know why, but the cables just intimidate me.

Getting Knitty With It

Current Knitting Project

My friends and I had a fun knitting party the other night. I realize that with our book clubs, crockpot dinner parties, and now knitting get-togethers, it must seem like we are over preparing ourselves for our future retirement days. But who says you can't enjoy doing these activities when you're young? We certainly have a great time doing them, and we are far from old! Knitting, wine & good company, how can you go wrong with that combination? The event was at my place, and there was a pretty large group of 17 ladies over. Many were new to knitting, so they learned how to get started from those of us who already know how, and we eventually had a little knitting factory going on. It was a lot of fun, and I think we may have to do it again sometime. When I'm done with the scarf pictured above, my next project will be an attempt at fingerless gloves. I have a feeling I may need some help with that project, so we'll see how it goes...

How to be an Old Lady

So one of my friends calls me the other day and asks what I'm doing. "Knitting and watching Oprah," I say. He then laughs and makes fun of me. I later tell this story to another friend, and he laughs and tells me I've become "an old lady". This is disturbing. I took up knitting this past weekend because I wanted to learn how to do something new, and because I thought it would be cool if I made myself a scarf (the only things I like about Winter are going snowboarding and being able to wear my scarves. Otherwise, I'm a Spring & Summer girl, and have no use for cold, gloomy Winters.) And yes, I do watch Oprah every once in a while, if I'm bored and at home when it's on. By putting those two together, knitting and watching Oprah, I've apparantly just learned how to be "an old lady". How sad...Once again--I need a REAL job! =P
