So close

It's almost finally here--the long anticipated release of the fourth and final installment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn! August used to seem so far away, yet in the blink of an eye, it has come so soon. I'm excited to be hosting a Pre-Midnight Release Party with my friends tomorrow evening, before we head off to the bookstore to purchase our copy of the book. If you'll remember, my original plan was to introduce some friends to the books so I wouldn't have to go to the midnight release alone. The plan exploded, and I've gathered a whole gang of fans--there will be 23 of us at my party tomorrow. I have a few things planned, including party favors (homemade bookmarks with quotes from the book, chocolate covered expresso beans for a snack while reading, and "i heart twilight" magnets), a Twilight Trivia game, a raffle, and prizes. Kellyn made a Twilight board game, which will be lots of fun, I'm sure. I can't wait for all the Twilighting fun!

Oh, and in other exciting Twilight news, I've converted my first MALE reader. Yes, you read correctly, Twilight Fan #31 is a man!

Welcome, August

The month is coming to a close, and I'm looking forward to leaving July behind. It has been one of those months, where I feel like I may be going a little crazy, like I may be losing my mind just the tiniest bit. A scatter-brained, eye-twitching, sad, busy, and stressful kind of month...My grandfather passed away. Taught my two weeks of camp at work. Managed to forget four (yes, FOUR!) birthdays, and if it weren't for my friends reminding me over and over again, I would have forgotten five. Forgot to pay a credit card bill and my cell phone bill. Trying to plan and get my butt in gear for the vacation I'm going on soon. Attempting to finish reading book club book before book club meeting takes place... Yes, I've been a bit overwhelmed.

But alas, August is upon us, and I will have a fresh start. It's already looking like a good month, with the release (finally!) of Breaking Dawn, and my 2 1/2 week Pacific Northwest road tripping adventure.

Goodbye July, Hello August.

Remembering Gramps

Your Loved One Lives In Your Heart
Many tender memories soften your grief,
May fond recollection bring you relief,
And may you find comfort and peace in the thought
Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought…
For time and space can never divide
Or keep your loved one from your side
When memory paints in colors true
The happy hours that
belonged to you.

All In a Day's Work

I am teaching summer day camp this week, and although it is fun, having to corral eighteen 5 & 6 year olds can also be very challenging and exhausting! We have the complainers and the talkers and the criers, but they are all so cute and can be quite entertaining too. Here's a story from our shark lesson today...

(After going over bones vs. cartilage with the kids): "Instead of having a skeleton made of bones, what do sharks have in their body?"

(One of the boys yells out): "Cardboard!"

Haha. Hmmm, a skeleton made of cardboard, that would be interesting....

that's why they call me "The Dealer"

Twilight Conversion Count: 27 friends

So I've been on this mission to spread the love for the wonderful book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. My friends call me The Dealer, and this hilarious email I received today from another friend will illustrate why that name is so fitting...

I am writing to inform you of your "in trouble" status. After (in good faith) checking out "Twilight" from the library on Friday afternoon, on your recommendations, I was ill prepared for the effect it would have on my weekend. Instead of doing the cleaning, laundry, and even eating that would have normally occurred, I finished the book by Saturday evening. During the course of this accomplishment, not only was my rear becoming permanently melded to our couch, but often I would glance over at my unsuspecting husband and think "Why did I marry YOU?" I actually went through physical withdrawal on Sunday. And seriously had to remember that my husband had done me no wrong, he simply wasn't Edward.
I damn you both, and will be at the library this afternoon checking out the next one. Next time just give me heroin.
Love, Twilight Fan #27

LOL. My original goal was to get a few friends to like the book, so I wouldn't have to go to the midnight release of Breaking Dawn alone. I never imagined that I would be gathering a whole gang to join me. Hehe.

All In a Day's Work

(Me, giving a talk about sea stars to the kids): "Do you remember what the sea stars have to move around and hold onto surfaces?"

(One of the boys, yelling out enthusiastically because he thought he knew the answer): "Testicles!" *then turns beet red because he realized his mistake*

(Me, trying to keep a straight face and not crack up): "No, but you're close, they're called tube feet."

LOL, gotta love kids.

Things that irk me #3

Crazy, aggressive, inconsiderate, road-raging a-holes.

Okay, I admit that I have my bouts of road rage and often get annoyed while driving the streets of L.A. There are so many drivers here and we encounter so much traffic, that sometimes you just can't help it. But to be unneccessarily angry and aggressive? Come on people! Swerving in and out of lanes, cutting people off, and giving fellow drivers the bird? Not going to get you there any faster! All you're doing is adding more negativity to the energy of the world.

So, to the guy that flipped me off on the freeway the other day: I was trying to move over so you could pass me. But you were too impatient to realize that, you jerk!

Work, more Work, and some Play

Today marks the end of a busy week of work and play and I'm exhausted. (Good thing I'm leaving for the Island tomorrow for a little play before the cycle begins again!)

Work: I had a six-day work week, which included a 12-hr day on Thursday because of the CPR training we had to take, and a running-around-like-crazy Saturday (it was so busy that I completely forgot to do a water change on our fish tank, and JUST remembered this fact about twenty minutes ago. Ahh! I hope I didn't kill our whale shark archerfish!)

Play: Wednesday-had a fun bowling outing, where I was the only one out of the six of us that bowled over 100! This was very exciting, since I very rarely hit 100. I'm not sure how it happened, though, because I was second to last and trailing the leader by twenty points midway through the game. Then, miraculously, I won...Friday-went to a Sex & the City girls night. We had cocktails and snacks, then went to see the movie. I laughed a little, cried a little, and overall enjoyed the movie and the evening.
